When Carey Nieuwhof was beginning his journey as the lead pastor of Connexus Community Church, he wanted a way to connect with several groups of people: the people of Connexus, the leaders he worked with through the Orange Conference, and the church leaders all across the continent who were interested in the story of Connexus.

Previously, Carey had communicated online primarily through a daily email blast, which went out to several hundred people. However, with the advancements in online communication, Carey made the decision to launch a blog where he could not only document his experiences, but facilitate a conversation around the topics he wrote about.

When asked to design the new blog, I knew that I would be somewhat limited to what I could do, as Carey was using Typepad as the blogging engine. However, through the use of a background image and a header, I was able to give the blog a unique, dynamic look with a mix of clean and grungy design elements.
